Beach Photography Workshop

August  22 – 24  Photography Workshop in Grayland, WA.

What to Expect at the beach workshop

The workshop is scheduled to commence on Friday, August 22nd. Kindly ensure your arrival at Ocean Acres Horse Hotel and B&B by 3 PM. One week prior to our gathering, you will receive an email with precise details regarding the meeting location. The B&B is situated on an expansive property, and I will have a dedicated area prepared for our assembly. The workshop will conclude following a morning session on Sunday, August 24th.

For those flying in, the closest airport is Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. The drive from the airport to Ocean Acres typically takes between 2.5 to 3 hours; however, allow for extra time as traffic conditions can vary.

As for accommodations, you have several choices. Ocean Acres offers comfortable rooms, though they tend to book quickly, as it is a favored destination. The nearest town, Westport, has additional lodging options, and I recommend exploring Airbnb for your stay. If you prefer a more rustic experience, camping is available at Ocean Acres. There are electrical hookups, for those camping in trailers or campers. If you opt to camp, kindly inform me, so I can coordinate with Ocean Acres.

Please be prepared for a short walk through the dunes to access the beach for our photography sessions. I suggest wearing hiking or water sandals, such as Tevas—sneakers can also work, though they may require some sand removal afterwards. While there may be an option to drive onto the beach, I advise against it unless you're experienced with Washington’s beaches, as vehicles can become stuck in the sand (a challenge I faced one summer).

Our schedule has been intentionally arranged to capture the beauty of low tide at the beach, which is why early starts are necessary. We aim to photograph two stunning sunsets; however, keep in mind that Pacific Coast weather can bring fog, which can create enchanting photographs in its own right. Looking forward to an inspiring and memorable workshop with all of you!

This workshop features three stunning horses and their talented riders! One of the stars of our session will be Drogo, a magnificent Palomino Andalusian Stallion, joined by his owner, Katie. We will also have a striking grey Azteca, with the possibility of adding a Friesian or another Andalusian to the mix—final decisions will be made as we approach the event.

Our plan is to create captivating images of the horses and models engaging in riding, posing on the ground, and interacting with water. Please note that we'll carefully monitor tide strength to ensure the safety of both horses and riders, as their well-being is our top priority.

Katie, an expert in mounted archery, will add an extra layer of excitement by bringing her bow and arrows to the beach. We envision capturing stunning shots of her practicing this skill while riding along the shoreline.

The photographs you'll take during this workshop can be invaluable for enhancing your portfolio, website, or personal collection. The models are enthusiastic about the opportunity to see your creativity unfold and will surely appreciate it if you share some of your images with them. Should you choose to post on social media, a tag will be warmly welcomed.

To foster collaboration and community, I've created a Facebook page for all workshop participants, titled Jessica Farren Photography Workshops, where you can share your images and connect with fellow photographers. We look forward to a memorable and inspiring session together!
