Learn the Art of Equine Photography
Step into the world of equine photography, where movement, emotion, and beauty come together in every frame.
Step into the art of equine photography, where movement, emotion, and connection come alive in every frame. My retreats and workshops are designed to spark creativity and build confidence, blending expert guidance with hands-on practice in beautiful locations.
Together, we’ll explore how to capture not only the beauty of horses, but also their bond with the horsemen and horsewomen who know them best. You’ll refine your technical skills, experiment with new creative approaches, and learn to tell authentic stories through your images. Our focus will be on the small, unscripted moments that reveal personality, trust, vulnerability, and strength; those fleeting instants that carry emotion and story when you are fully present behind the lens.
From windswept beaches to the golden hills of Walla Walla wine country, each gathering brings together a small, passionate group of photographers and horse lovers. Expect thoughtful instruction, live demos, and plenty of time behind the lens, so you are not just practicing but creating with purpose.
By the end, you will leave with images that carry soul and motion, along with the confidence and perspective to keep pushing your craft forward.

Equine Alchemy
Lusitanos in Crystals, Color, Gold and Motion
October 18, 2025
The Wow Arena - Milton Freewater, OR (10 minutes from Walla Walla, WA)
Where Gold, Color &Crystals Create Alchemy
Equine Alchemy is a one-day photography workshop built around creativity, learning, and the fun of photographing Lusitanos in a way you’ve never seen before. The day is divided into three sessions, each offering a different setup and visual style. You can choose to attend one session, combine two, or join the full day.
In every class, the horses will be prepared in advance by Kent and Tiffany with either crystals or gold leaf or with color powder. Your role is to focus on photographing Lusitanos, posed and in motion with all that glitters, and leave with bold, one-of-a-kind images.
The Day at a Glance
Class One — 9:00 to 11:00 AM
Crystals & Gold
Photograph Lusitanos in standing poses highlighted with crystal and gold accents. Focus on portrait composition, lighting, and capturing detail.
Class Two — 1:00 to 3:00 PM
Color in Motion
Photograph Lusitanos with horse-safe color powder. Horses may be posed and/or in motion. This session emphasizes color, timing, and creative variety.
Class Three — 4:00 to 6:00 PM
Liberty or Evening Light (Crystals and/or Gold)
Photograph Lusitanos at liberty indoors. If the evening light is beautiful, we may also move outdoors (posed, in motion with halter and lunge line — not at liberty). The final session of the day brings sparkle, motion, and atmosphere.
Optional Bonus Session — Friday, October 17 (4:00 to 6:00 PM)
Outdoor Session (No Crystals or Decoration)
Photograph Lusitanos outdoors in natural light. At sunset, silhouettes and golden tones may take center stage; if it’s overcast, we’ll work with the soft, even light. A simple, timeless session: horses as they are.

I invite you to join my workshops designed to enhance your creative process and explore the art of photographing horses. These sessions are welcoming to photographers of all levels, ensuring everyone can benefit. To fully engage in the workshop, it’s helpful to have a foundational understanding of your camera and its features. No prior experience with horses is required, and we will begin with a safety demonstration to ensure a secure and enjoyable experience for everyone.
I suggest using a DSLR or mirrorless camera with a removable lens system for your photography. For equine portraits, my go-to lenses are the 70-200mm f/2.8 and the 85mm f/1.4, which. While wide-angle lenses like the 35mm or 50mm can be excellent for other photography styles, they may not be the best fit for capturing equine portraits. If you don't already have a 70-200mm lens, renting one could be a great option. I often use lensrentals.com, but there are plenty of other rental services available as well.
