Onaqui Wild Horses

Echoes of the Desert

In the vast expanse of Utah’s Onaqui range, time moves differently. The wind shapes the land, the light reveals its quiet stories, and among the sagebrush, the Onaqui wild horses live out their days in rhythm with the desert. I’m drawn most to their stillness — the gentle bonds, the weight of years carried in silence, and the grace found in the in-between. One stallion, nearly thirty years old when I photographed him, became the heart of this collection. His presence was steady and luminous, a living testament to endurance. Around him, the herd moved, resting, grazing, gathering; each moment a small act of belonging. These images are not about spectacle, but about presence. The wild, the ordinary, and the quiet beauty that endures through them both.

I decided to invest in some professional mustang photography and this beauty arrived today (Sunrise Pink). I picked this photograph because I have been able to personally see this stallion on a few occasions in the wild, while visiting the Onaqui herd. Jessica Farren/4005 Images was fantastic to work with – quite a feat picking the right image that would be clear and crisp, considering the size of the image (40x60), and she was helpful and willing to pull different images while I was in the decision making process. I love it so much!
